lets take a poll

My parents got really "giddy" (term my dad used), when they read about the house for sale on Charcoal road in Dublin in the last church newsletter. They were really excited about it. They looked it up online and almost wanted to sell this house on the spot and move. They are ready to get out of the traffic, the heat, and the ghettoness that is building around us. Now that a few days have past, they realize more and more how unrealistic it would be to move there..or at least not right now. Dad has 3 more years until retirement, so we have to hold out until then. Also, mom kinda dreads the snow and year round winters, but does think of it as a nice alternative to the city life. Oh goodness, I just couldn't imagine me living in Dublin!! But who knows what will happen. This has opened their eyes to possibilities for the future. Of course that house won't be for sale forever, but probably some house in the area will be when it comes time to pack up and move. Well ya'll pray about it and mom wanted me to take a poll of what you guys think of us living there...could we really handle the snow, cold, ice, long commutes, and the chilling silence of the night? Let us know.

Has your mom ever lived anywhere but Florida? Just curious.

I think it's just really funny that your parents are thinking about bucking the trend of retirees moving south.

YEAH! I think they'd make a great addition to the Fairwood church! But who am I to say that? I'm not even there anymore! Hmmm...There's actually a house for sale two doors down from Nate and Penny...Come to GA instead! Not much of an escape from the heat, but it's not a total ghetto ( yet ) where we live...

yeah they talked about going to GA too if nothing else. My mom has lived in fl all her life so it is a strange thought her living up north.

As much as I am not a pessimist[HA!!], I really have to wonder if they could handle it. If they didn't have to go out during the winter, except when they wanted to, that might make a difference. BUT, they would get sticker shock from whatever source of heat they choose to use :)

Of course, they could do it for a year or 2, then move right back south :) Then they'd be "hardened" yanks and could "pshaw, you call THIS cold?" to everyone, lol. That in itself might be worth it, heh, heh, heh...

    YAAA!!! COME ON DOWN!!!

Or up, as the case may be.

Hmmm, I'm really not in a position to say whether your parents could handle living in the cold, hard north (cold and hard in more ways than one). However, I think for sure if they wanted to be here badly enough for other reasons, they could do it. There sure is lots of warm fellowship emanating from the Fairwood church, so maybe that would counter the cold for them.

But a move to cold climes is not to be taken lightly.

The other question, just as important, is whether they could handle the heat. This might sound dumb since you live in Florida, but remember that NH houses don't have AC. When it's 85 and humid in July, you feel every ounce of it as you drip sweat trying to sleep at night. You get all extremes living here.

My overwhelming first response though was YEAH!!!! Also, it's felt like April in New England ever since October, as it does today. The snow in CT has melted already. So if that's a sign of future winters, they could definitely handle it.

well asaphat this house for sale actually does have a/c so we're all set. We'll be the spoiled ones, or we might just savor the humidity just for old times sake.
And Hesper, I think you're right. They would get used to it, or it could be all the more reason to stay in the house and bundle up making cards.

YEAAAAAHHHH!!!!! Not only would it be awesome to have you guys so close, but also, on those horrible humid July days, we can all come hang out at your house! Hee hee hee:)

Sounds lovely!! I think it would be hard at first, but I bet they could handle it. And there are few pleasures so keen as sitting by a warm fire in the dead of winter!

Far be it from me to hold up the next post :)

I hate to be the only negative voice here, but if you move up, who will all us northerners come down to visit in florida? My vote goes for you staying just so we have a reason to visit. :)

Speaking hypothetically of course; seeing as I've never actually come down to visit, but it could happen, sometime.

Hmm. Speaking as one who just moved from the snow after 9 years....maybe Georgia would be a better move?????

I'd vote for Georgia if I was going to be there, and NH if I was going to be there!

    Ain't I helpful? ;O)

Seriously, moving north is a super idea!
